She then moved to Nelson and became the resident conductor of the Nelson Symphony Orchestra from 1988-93, with 6 concerts a year of both standard repertoire, commissions (the opera "At the Hawks Well" by Nigel Keay a highlight), and on 2 occasions conducting and performing (Vivaldi The Four Seasons, and Beethoven’s violin concerto).
After that she moved to Auckland to take up the position of Associate Concertmaster with the APO, which she still holds today. Living in Auckland, she has conducted the North Shore Symphony Orchestra, St Matthews Chamber Orchestra, NZ Secondary Schools Symphony Orchestra, Westlake Chamber and Symphony Orchestra, as well as being guest conductor for regional music courses, an adjudicator for Chamber Music NZ, and is an assessor for Creative NZ. She is also an active chamber musician, current groups being Jade String Quartet, Vivo and Bravura, and was for 15 years the director of the Nelson and Auckland Gamelan Group. |

Miranda Adams was born in Dunedin, and completed a B.Mus, P.G.Dip in both violin and conducting from Otago University in 1986, the same year she was a finalist in the TVNZ/NZSO Young Musician Competition, performing Dvorak violin concerto with the NZSO.
